Trappings

Could a horse, if it had the gift of reason, boast of its splendid trappings, knowing that, at a sign from its master, they could be stripped from him? What have we of ourselves but nothingness and sin? If we closely examine ourselves we shall find how faulty and imperfect is the little good that we may do. All the gifts that man possesses, whether of nature or of grace, come from God, the Giver of all. This led St. Paul to say, "By the grace of God I am what I am." (I Corinthians 15:10)
